Parent-Child Interaction Therapy

What is Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)?

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based approach to treating behavioral problems in young children. CCD counselors specially trained in this type of therapy help parents decide whether this treatment is right for them and their children. PCIT is conducted through a series of “coaching” sessions in which parents and children interact in a playroom environment as the therapist observes either in an observation room or through a live video feed. Parents wear a small audio device in one ear in order to receive therapist coaching in the moment, providing by-the-minute guidance on how to better manage the child’s behavior during the session.

Typically, PCIT ranges from around fourteen to seventeen sessions depending on the level of mastery parents show in the skills required to manage a child’s behavior. There is no clock on this treatment. What’s important is providing parents the toolkit needed to better manage their child’s behavior. Kimberly Boulden, MSW (Pre-Licensed Professional)

Kimberly received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from University of Delaware in 2016 and subsequently graduated with a Master of Social Work Degree from Widener University. She has been working with at-risk populations for over fifteen years. Her experience includes providing services in residential and office-based settings. Her clinical focus is a trauma-focused and strengths-based approach to work with children, adolescents, families, and adults.
 
Throughout her career she has experience working with clients facing trauma, homelessness, addiction, anxiety, and depression. Kimberly incorporates a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models into treatment such as Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).
 
Kimberly takes a holistic and empowering approach in her work. She believes in the principle of meeting clients where they are in order to establish and achieve treatment goals.

Ruth Cain, MS, LMSW, JSOCC (Pre-Licensed Professional)

Ruth is a graduate of Delaware State University and Wilmington University. She is JSOCC (Juvenile Sexual Offending Certified Counselor) for children and adolescents with inappropriate sexual behaviors. She has worked with children and adolescents for over 10 years in the mental health field. She has been trained as a multisystemic therapist working with at-risk adolescents and as a mobile therapist for intensive outpatient. Ruth has worked with depression, self-esteem, ADHD, anxiety, and mood disorders. She likes to work with children, adolescents, and adults.

Teisha Fooks, MSW (Pre-Licensed Professional)

Teisha received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Southern Utah University. She will graduate in December with her master’s in social work from Delaware State University and is currently working to obtain her license as a Licensed Master of Social Work. Teisha’s primary clinical focus is working with children and adolescents. Teisha uses a person-centered approach and employs Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Play/Art Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Visual Imagery. She is also trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT).

Sandra Lopez-Villicana, LCSW

Sandra is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where she earned her BA in Criminology and her Master of Social Work degree. She has lived in Delaware for most of her life but has worked with children, teens, and families in Boston, MA, Camden, NJ, and Philadelphia, PA. Sandra has supported many individuals with various needs and adjusts treatment accordingly. Sandra is trained in EMDR, PCIT, TraumaPlay, Play therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and CBT.  

Sandra conducts sessions in English and Spanish. She is licensed in both Delaware and Pennsylvania and provides school-based services, in office, and through telehealth. As Program Manager for Bilingual Services, Sandra is eager to expand the availability of services for every individual throughout Delaware.

Shanice Reid, MSW (Pre-Licensed Professional)

Shanice was born and raised in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. She received her Bachelor of Social Work in 2017 and her Master of Social Work in 2020. Both degrees coming from the illustrious Delaware State University. Shanice Reid is a pre-licensed school based clinician currently working towards her licensure.

Shanice has experience working with a variety of populations but mainly works with young children and at-risk youth and their families. Trained in PCIT and EMDR, Shanice uses a strength-based approach, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Art Therapy, and more to work successfully with clients and families.

Rebecca Roebke, LCSW

Rebecca specializes in working with children and families using strengths to overcome challenges. She has worked with children for over 15 years. Her interest is in helping children and adults who have experienced trauma with the goal to empower families to make the necessary changes in order to create strong, loving environments where children can thrive.

Rebecca is trained in and practices the following modalities:

  1. PCIT: a specialized therapy that helps oppositional/defiant children ages 2-7 learn to listen to their parents. PCIT improves behavior while also strengthening the parent-child relationship.
  2. EMDR for children and adults (certification 1/2023):  EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. For children, Rebecca is trained to integrate EMDR into play therapy.
  3. Trauma Play (certification 12/22): an attachment-based play therapy model for healing the wounds of trauma with children and families.

Rebecca enjoys teaching and training others on the effects of trauma on the brain and integrating art and other creative modalities into the therapy process. When not providing therapy in the outpatient office, you can most likely find Rebecca on the beach with her husband, two children, and her pups.

Pam Seals, PhD, LACMH, NCC (Pre-Licensed Professional)

Pam has a passion for helping people. She has strived to build on that passion by earning her Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Springfield College, Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University as well as her Ph.D. in Philosophy with a focus on Adult Behavior from Capella University. Pam has gained certification as a Trauma Professional and is currently working toward licensure as a LMHC. Her primary focus is working with teens, young adults, and adults. She has experience treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, grief, and trauma.

Pam is trained in the following therapeutic modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), while also continually working to increase her clinical approach by training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT). She utilizes a person-centered approach and believes in working to build a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients to assist them on their journey.

Jasmine Wynn, LCSW

Jasmine is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Social Work where she received her Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in Family, Youth, and Children. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware. Jasmine has worked in both the New York City and Delaware child welfare and school systems counseling and providing coordination of services to youth and families. Jasmine is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and has many years of experience in the field.  Jasmine joined the Center for Child Development (CCD) in 2013 and works with clients of all ages utilized evidence-based treatment approaches. Jasmine is trained in many treatment modalities including Parent Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
