Is your child self-harming?

bigstock--164493488

How would you know if your child was self-harming? It’s not like they talk openly about it. In fact, children who self-harm are experts at hiding their physical scars. I’ve often been in the position of having to inform parents that their kid has cut themselves. Some parents go into denial, others get angry, and then there are some who refuse to take it seriously. It is dangerous and should always be a cause for concern.

Why do kids intentionally hurt themselves? There is no simple answer, but self-harm is an unhealthy way of dealing with intense emotions. Hidden depression, anxiety, anger, stress, abuse, can all be contributors.

What can a parent do? You must be informed. It’s important to know what to look for. What you say can increase the self-harming behavior. Denial can also increase the behavior. This is why we’re hosting a breakfast and learn session. Join other parents and learn how to protect your child from this growing concern.
